Its not possible with the slideshow, You can use the Content Slider particle -> tab Slider setting -> Tablet Landscape -> set to 100% or Inherit. Next, tab Overlay -> Mode -> Disabled

Its possible, do you want a custom version to implement the image picker ? If you want to use an image to toggle a modal dialog, image particle already support this modal toogle, however, the Image particle does not support load Modal module, I will add Module options for image particle soon.
